The ‘CLARIN’ Research Infrastructure

en_GBit_IT

CLARIN (Common Language Resources and Technology Infrastructure) is a Research Infrastructure of pan-European interest identified by ESFRI (European Strategy Forum on Research Infrastructures) and classified as ESFRI Landmark SSH RI in the ESFRI Roadmap 2016.

It is an Infrastructure of distributed data, with participating institutions from all over Europe, such as universities, research centres, libraries and public archives.

All participating organizations have in common the provision of access to collections of digital linguistic data, to the digital tools for their processing and to the expertise necessary for their processing from researchers.

Like all Research Infrastructures based on distributed data, CLARIN has three main components: i) a Technical Infrastructure; ii) a Knowledge Infrastructure; iii) a set of commonly agreed organisational rules, measures and conventions that should ensure seamless interaction among users, operators and components, including standards, access, licences and quality assurance.

CLARIN is governed and coordinated by a European Consortium.

The CLARIN preparatory phase project was carried out from 01/01/2008 to 30/06/2011 and was funded by the European Commission with the Grant Agreement No. FP7-INFRASTRUCTURES-2007-212230.
