On 1st October 2015 Italy became the 16th Ordinary Member of CLARIN ERIC.

This event ratified the creation of CLARIN-IT (Italian Common Language Resources and Technology Infrastructure), the Italian Consortium of CLARIN ERIC.

CLARIN-IT Representative Body is CNR-DSU (Department of Human and Social Sciences, Cultural Heritage of the National Research Council).

CLARIN-IT Executing Institution is CNR-ILC (Institute of Computational Linguistics “Antonio Zampolli” of the National Research Council), which was already an active participant in the CLARIN preparatory phase project (2008-2011) through the LaRI (Language Resources and Infrastructures) Research Group.

CLARIN-IT National Coordinator is Monica Monachini, Head of Research at CNR-ILC and LaRI Leader.

CLARIN-IT is in continuous progress and aims to include the major universities and research institutes of the country: departments and institutions of linguistic and literary studies, Philology and Computer Science, as well as groups mainly involved in the field of Digital Humanities and in the sectors of documentation, digitalization of contents and language technologies for Social Sciences and Humanities.

CLARIN-IT National Coordinator is building the Italian Consortium and acts as an interface between the Italian Research Community and CLARIN ERIC.
